Ahoy, me hearties, it was all hands on deck at Leitchville Primary School last Thursday as the lads and lassies dressed as pirates to help raise money for kids cancer. The scallywags contributed a gold coin donation towards childhood brain cancer as part of the Kids’ Cancer Project’s Pirate Day, held during brain cancer awareness month each May.

Pirate Day was founded in 2014 by Nathan Colgan after his son Conor was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, with the pirate theme inspired by Conor’s need to wear an eye patch because of his surgery and treatments.

Shiver me timbers! Since 2015, a booty of over $630,000 has been raised by pirates across Australia.

The pirates also took part in Leitchville’s Biggest Morning Tea held at the Memorial Hall.
