Despite the odds, the Wakool Show is going ahead this weekend, and organisers are confident they have ticked most of the boxes required to make a great family fun evening.

Gates will open to the public at 3pm but pavilion items will need to be on hand for processing and judging no later than 12 noon. This year’s pavilion entries have been limited to Edward and Murray River Shires and the committee apologises to anyone disappointed by this decision.

If you have put your COVID-19 time to good use and decluttered your life, a trash and treasure market will commence at 5pm. Sites can be secured at $10 and you’ll need to bring your own trestle table and chair by about 4.30pm to set yourself up.

There will be no equestrian events on Saturday, but novelties will take place on Friday evening from 5pm.

Following the official opening at 6pm, Miss and Master Tiny Tot will kick off, closely followed by Miss Junior Showgirl and Miss Autumn. Whilst the young ladies are wowing the judges, a Lego challenge will be available for the young men: teams of two, with five minutes of planning time and 30 minutes of construction time. Prizes for the winners have been donated by Trend of Barham.

The Ginger Lowry Shearing Challenge is on again following last year’s success and the Aussie guys will be keen to wrest back the trophy from the Kiwis. Both teams will be led off by the female shearers, with the males of each team to follow.

To give organisers time to present awards and load up the shorn sheep, there will be the opportunity to finally find out the answer to that question you’ve been pondering, ‘Which would win a barrel race – a single runner, a horse and rider or a motorcycle and rider?’ Three young locals will pit their skills against each other in this gruelling event.

Jo and Don from Restdown Wines have been invited to share their expertise and produce and can be found at the rear of the licenced bar.

The canteen will be providing everything your family will need to sustain them through the evening’s line up of entertainment.  Music will be provided by ‘Endangered Species’, and a few surprises within.

Please be patient when coming through the gates as we are required to sign everyone in and issue wristbands. If you don’t have a wristband inside the showground, you will be required to undergo additional COVID-19 checks.

Hoping to see a huge turn up!
