Last Friday night the Koondrook oval was host to the under 16’s Friday night cricket competition between Koondrook and Murrabit. A fantastic following by both sides lined the fence to watch their teams battle out for the winning shield.
Murrabit headed into bat first with Archer McKnight opening, making a quick 12 before being caught. He was followed by Noah Shea and Fee Coulter, both retiring in their 20’s. Murrabit scored a mammoth 107 runs.
Koondrook went into bat with Kynan Laursen and Ryder Laursen hitting plenty of balls around and both making it into their 20’s to retire. Lachie Laursen reached a quick 9 before going out for LBW. Mason Laursen also made a quick 20. Koondrook fell short by 12 runs with a total of 95 runs made and no overs left.
Joint coaches of Murrabit, Brad Hein and Peter McDonald, said the kids have done an amazing job all year and were proud of how far the players' skills had developed throughout the season, and for them to win was a real buzz.
Great sportsmanship was also shown from both sides throughout the match. It was also noted that there had been over 800 runs made on the Koondrook pitch over three days of cricket played, which ranged from juniors to seniors. An amazing effort and preparation goes on behind the scenes by Eric Lake each and every week to prepare the wicket for match days.
