Shooters Fishers Farmers no longer holds any NSW lower house MPs after the member for Barwon, Roy Butler, and member for Orange, Phil Donato, announced their resignations and will run as independents at the NSW state election in March next year.
Member for Murray, Helen Dalton, left the party in March over concerns that members of her own party had failed to back her support of a disallowance motion on the issue of flood plain harvesting. The split from the party turned bitter with Ms Dalton being removed as an administrator of her own Facebook page, then deleted the page that had 27,000 followers after she tendered her resignation. The page was later returned to Ms Dalton’s control.
The final straw for Mr Butler and Mr Donato were comments party leader, Robert Borsak, made in parliament, stating former party member-turned-independent MP, Helen Dalton, should have been “clocked”.
Mr Butler said, “There’s still been no retraction, no apology,” which left him “no choice” but to quit.
