Very recently I was reminded that it is indeed the season for swooping magpies. I was riding along a local walking and bike track minding my own business when suddenly I felt a whoosh of air against the side of my face generated by swiftly moving bird wings followed by the snap of a beak next to my ear. It only took a second to see the culprit, a local magpie!
