There’s only 26 weeks to Christmas!

There is absolutely no-doubt that this headline may scare the life out of you, particularly mums and dads. But is better to be prepared than have Christmas creep up on you as it usually does with ever increasing speed.

Murray River Council would like to work with each of its communities to create a happy and joyful Christmas atmosphere, particularly because of the challenging year we’ve had so far.

Council’s 2020/21 budget has a $20,000 allocation for Christmas decorations, but as you can imagine this does not stretch very far when it is divided among 10 communities.

So Council’s Economic Development Team is calling on residents and businesses to help them light up local communities this Christmas by sharing their ideas on the types of decorations they would like to see.

Manager Economic Development & Tourism, John Harvie said Council would like to gain a better understanding of the community’s views and what they would like introduced for 2020.

“Council is seeking suggestions as to what we can do to help decorate or light the main street or a particular space in each community.”

“If we can get some ideas direct from our residents it will assist us in ensuring our Christmas decorations are something the entire community can be proud of.”

“We’re also encouraging our community members to join in the festive spirit by planning to decorate homes or yards this Christmas and we’d love to see businesses decorating their shop windows too,” he said

Residents can submit ideas or suggestions for town Christmas decorations via Council’s Your Say Murray River platform: yoursay.murrayriver.nsw.gov.au.

Alternatively, suggestions can be dropped in to any of Council’s Customer Service Centres titled ‘Christmas Suggestions’.

“The feedback obtained will assist Council in planning for this year’s decorations including where decorations should be placed and if anything new should be introduced,” Mr Harvie said.
