Singing your song...

From courtship to marriage, relationships have moments of enormous highs and the lowest of lows. In those early days of getting to know one another, sharing experiences and stealing kisses  without a care in the world, it seems as though all that matters are the two of you. If and when that relationship turns to marriage, there are the exciting first few years of being a newlywed, making plans for the future and often, bringing children into the world.

Relationships take work, that is for certain, but when life’s distractions get in the way, such as financial stability, outside influences of every variety and health matters, what would have initially been considered as taking care of a relationship then becomes hard work.

There are many times when we have wanted to wring our partner’s neck (that’s merely a figure of speech by the way), and then, there are times when we love our partner so much our hearts could burst, but I really think it’s when we scale things right back to basics and try tapping in to those days of early courtship that our relationships are strongest. You might say, “Oh, those days are long gone,” but those days are precisely the reason you fell in love in the first place, and you’re still there.

Love isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but it’s important we remind ourselves what gave us those ‘feels’ in the first place. Something as simple as ‘that song’ that made you feel all loved up when you first got together or from your wedding day – it’s your song, and it was as though the words were written just for you.

Why not give yourself a challenge this Valentine’s Day, and dig up the song that awakens special memories for you and your partner?

I have compiled a list of songs that invoke special memories of love for some local couples. See if your song comes up in the list or, what song would you like to add to it?
