A driver involved in a collision last week at the intersection of the Koondrook-Murrabit Road and Murrabit-Kerang Road is calling for a safety upgrade of the intersection.

On Friday, December 8, two vehicles collided when a Ford Focus failed to give way to an oncoming light truck.

The two occupants of the Ford Focus were transported to hospital for observation and the driver of the truck was unharmed.

It wasn’t long before the online post depicting the accident garnered numerous accounts of near misses and accidents at the intersection.

“I think it was just one of those things, it was just a simple accident,” said the driver, who wished to remain anonymous.

“It is a blind spot and you’re on a bit of an angle as you run across the road going from one side.

“I’m going in sort of a bit of an angle and like I said, if you looked one way it was fine and I looked the other way I couldn't see anything, so I’ve gone.”

The intersection sees large volumes of traffic as the main arterial between Swan Hill and Koondrook-Barham, and for Murrabit-Gonn residents commuting to Kerang. Trucks carrying stock and produce also frequent the troubled intersection and many have raised safety concerns for backpackers who are often in the area for seasonal work.

Those calling for an upgrade would like to see a roundabout installed to reduce the risk of a potential fatality.
