At midnight on Saturday, October 29, two men from the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne decided, against emergency services’ advice, to set off to country Victoria to check out the floods.
By 3am, they were bogged deep in mud in a remote area outside of flood affected Kerang. Unfortunately, police made numerous attempts to rescue the pair, however, were unable to locate them.
Once daylight, and after hours of searching, their location was identified. After having one police vehicle bogged due to the thick mud, it was decided to have the men walk several kilometres on foot before both were rescued and driven into town. Their car was not so lucky.
