“It was a plate of freshly baked scones with jam and cream that really hooked me”, said Leigh who was a volunteer firefighter with the Country Fire Authority. Bushfires cause so much loss and grief but thankfully in their midst there are wonderful “acts of kindness” performed like the day when two children came running up to a fire fighting vehicle while it was refilling its water tank and delivered a plate of scones, jam and cream. Leigh was one of the recipients and he said in response, “Forty-five years of service in the CFA paid for by one plate of kindness. I’d call that a fair swap”. We have come to that time of the year again when we are impacted by fires which can cause so much damage to property and even life. We rely so much on volunteer fire fighters to control these fires. Driving along a local road I saw volunteer fire fighters keeping an eye on this fire.
