Investigations are continuing after a body was found following a house fire at Moulamein.

About 1.20am (Friday, 17 July, 2026), emergency services were called to a home on Brougham Street, Moulamein, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found the property well alight.

NSW RFS attended and extinguished the fire.

When the home was searched, the body of a woman was found inside the house.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

On Saturday, 11 July, 2026, officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation following reports a 27-year-old woman was assaulted by a man known to her in Moama.

As a part of an ongoing investigation, about 10am Wednesday, 15 July, 2026, officers were patrolling at a velodrome near Kirchofer Street, Moama, when they attempted to speak to a 26-yer-old man.

When police approached, the man allegedly ran from the scene, commencing a foot pursuit.

Following extensive inquires, with the assistance from Victoria Police, about 10.15am the same day, police arrested the man in a toilet at a school nearby.

Police allegedly located and seized a knife in the school carpark, to undergo forensic examination.

There were no students or staff injured due to the incident.

The man was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (two counts), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (four counts), enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse (two counts), destroy or damage property (two counts), common assault, larceny, enter dwelling with intention, custody of knife in public place, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, and knowingly contravene third or more time in 28 days AVO.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 on Thursday, 16 July.
