Our Vital Volunteers - Cohuna Show

Did you go to the Cohuna Show last weekend? Did you know that the Show is run by a small band of volunteers?

This big event, with an executive committee of just seven people, takes a whole year to organise, and requires many more people to co-ordinate the many and varied sections, and to assist with preparations before, during and after the event.

From the moment the Show is over and the committee has had a chance to rest and review the event, it is time to reset and start planning for next year. So many discussions about what entertainment, what attractions, what food, what prizes, what judges, what ticketing platform, what pavilion, poultry, cattle and horse classes to include or remove from the schedule… so much to decide – and much of it comes down to money and manpower.

These events are BIG, but the committees are SMALL, and they could do with some helpful hands and marvellous minds.

So, if you’re thinking something is lacking, or something could have been done differently, spare a thought for the handful of volunteers who struggle to get the event off the ground. Instead of pointing a finger of complaint, point your hand in the air and offer to help next year.
