On The Home Stretch

After 303 kilometres, 20 interviews, 67.5 litres of water, 447,000 steps, 10 blisters, 450 honking car horns, 60 pieces of roadkill (not consumed fortunately), Lloyd Polkinghorne will conclude his Walk for Water when he arrives along the Hume Dam between 12pm and 1pm this Saturday.

What are your plans for Saturday morning?

Other than washing the car before the heat sets in or dropping kids at sports, may I suggest you grab yourself a coffee or cool drink from one of our local cafes, stock up on some travel treats, fuel up the car and make your way to the Hume Dam. It’s a 3-hour drive, but with good company, the journey will be quick ,and well worth the effort when you arrive.

Be sure to be there when Lloyd walks those final steps, in recognition of his efforts in support of the salt of the earth, our farmers and producers, and to congratulate him on seeing it through.

Alternatively, Lloyd has extended an invitation to those who wish to walk the final leg with him to the Hume Dam.

Exhausted but energised by the support of communities far and wide, aching but resilient after hearing the stories of families affected by the Basin Plan; Lloyd’s Walk for Water has gained enormous traction since he began his walk on November 11th.

The aptly named campaign of ‘walking for water,’ – one can only imagine that a thirst-quenching water is just what he’ll be looking for when he arrives.

Good onya Lloyd!
