Murray Irrigation will start its annual winter works program this month.
It will be undertaking works across a number of asset classes, including offtakes, regulators, bridges and channel banks.
Murray Irrigation drains one third of its footprint to complete the works. Its shareholder/customers are advised to check the maintenance schedule map on the company website where the 2022 works program areas are identified in yellow.
They predominantly include an area in the western part of its footprint in the Moulamein district, an area in the east taking in the Berrigan and Jerilderie districts, and areas to the north-east and south-east of Deniliquin.
To complete the works, Murray Irrigation has engaged dozens of contractors and their scope this winter will include:
- Concrete remedial works on 186 regulator/offtake structures.
- Desilting approximately 300 kilometres of channel.
- Erosion control on approximately 170 structures.
- Miscellaneous civil and mechanical repairs/upgrades on 25 sites.
Program planners will work with the operations team to prioritise works and ensure the channels are brought back online in accordance with demand as early as possible.
Murray Irrigation has a proud safety record, with safety always the first consideration. In accordance with this philosophy, all contractors have already attended a safety briefing before the anticipated start date at the end of May.
