I am very pleased to be able to report the COVID-19 status at Murray Haven this week, as it is a lot more optimistic than last fortnight’s update.
The implementation of six defence workers at the Barham facility, which included two enrolled nurses and four general workers, and only one positive case remaining, had a significant impact on lessening the load on staff, while at the same time lifting the morale of staff and residents. Facility manager, Jo Kinsey, says having the extra hands on deck has been greatly appreciated.
“The defence workers have been here for a week and it has been wonderful. It’s amazing what a difference that extra bit of help makes. The residents also appreciate seeing new faces, and now that we’re on our way out of the third wave, everyone is feeling much more positive.”
Murray Haven is grateful to have had no hospitalisations due to COVID-19 infections, and hopes that the previous week’s challenges may now become a thing of the past. Something else that Jo wishes to express her gratitude for is the kindness of the community, which has been so supportive to the facility.
“Some beautiful people have dropped by with cakes for our staff and a local business has offered to put on morning tea for us, which is just so lovely. Ali, Murray Haven is here for this community and that is the message we really would like to get across. The support works both ways.”
Murray Haven is now open for nominated visitors and will meet with its COVID-19 team next Tuesday when they hope to be fully open with fewer restrictions.
