Murray River Council has awarded $10,496 in heritage funding to help with the maintenance and upkeep of local heritage properties.
The program endeavours to support the community in their efforts to preserve heritage items within the council.
With a total of $10,500 available under the grants round, six applications were received, seeking a total of $33,996.
Three applications were deemed successful under the 2020/21 program.
Moama Cemetery was awarded $2,596 under the program for the next stage of development of the Moama Cemetery Path of Remembrance.
The overall project includes the installation of a series of plinths and plaques, each bearing the name and date of death of persons who were buried in the cemetery in unmarked graves, supporting the ongoing efforts to build upon the town’s local history.
Moulamein Community Development Inc were awarded $5,000 for the Old Dhuragoon School Restoration which includes painting and the replacement of the old frames around the windows.
The school will be a key feature at Moulamein’s new Heritage Village site.
St James Church in Moama will also receive a facelift thanks to $2,900 of funding which will support the paint and repair of the facer boards, windowsills and down pipes.
Murray River Council mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said the three projects are important heritage projects within the area.
“These initiatives will enhance key items in our rich collection of historical sites, buildings and artefacts located in the council area.”
“It’s pleasing that these works can now go ahead, and we can continue to preserve our history for current and future generations to enjoy,” he said.
