The Macorna Tigers’ A Grade side are roaring for a season of netball. After a year out of the game due to the pandemic, the Tigers return under the leadership of A Grade coach, Tiff Bartram, in what the club expects to be a strong season.
“We’ve had a fantastic turnout,” Bartram said. “People who have been around the club for a long time have never seen the numbers we have had on the court.
“After the year off, there was always concern numbers would be down, so to have such a strong turnout is fantastic for our club.”
The club has added some new guns to the line-up, with defensive duo, Sammi Drover and Laura Bennie, joining from Leitchville/Gunbower. “We’ve also added some explosive goalers in Jasmine Williams and Madi Purvis from the Bombers as well,” Bartram said.
Kara Farrell rejoins from Pyramid Hill, while Renee Deason and Sam Smith join the club after moving to the area. Crafty tall defender, Erin Delahunty, will also add to the side, fresh from Echuca United’s 2019 A grade Murray League premiership team.
With the strong numbers on court during the pre-season, Bartram said the squad is now looking to strengthen their bond for the new season. “We’re holding a bonding day for the squad soon,” she said.
“We will be working on a range of activities aimed to build teamwork like yoga and an amazing race, but we are also looking at our goals and expectations for the year and where we see ourselves going as a group. We secured all our senior coaches again nice and early and have had lots of time to prepare and plan for the pre-season.
“The group is coming together beautifully; everyone is super excited for a season this year. Our new players bring us a mixture of young and old, experienced and up and coming talent, and with what the club already has in some up-and-coming talent like Hannah Dee, we are pumped to get out there and be competitive.”
Macorna opens its season on April 17 against Hay.
