There are approximately 11,000 bird species in the world, an incredible variety. around 800 of these species call Australia home. When in the bush or on the open plains it is good to occasionally stop, look and listen and most likely you will hear or see a bird. I stopped on the edge of a lake a few days ago which was partly obscured by heavy vegetation on its edges when suddenly I saw a black swan on its nest in the water.
