Western Murray Land Improvement Group (WMLIG) and Young Country Networkers are hosting a Livestock Basics Day next Tuesday 15th December from 9 am until 4:30 pm at Treweek’s 228 Jerry’s Road, Wakool.

This event is funded by NSW Department of Primary Industries Young Farmer Business Program. This is a no-charge event for WMLIG members. Non-members are welcome to join and can voluntarily purchase a $10 annual membership.

Topics on the day will include; livestock general health considerations and issues and how to deal with them, best practice tagging, drenching, needling, docking and castration, what to look for when selecting stock, advantages/disadvantages of different breeds, sales options, wool classing basics and reading appraisal reports, and what it takes to run a stud. There will also be a crutching and shearing demonstration.

WMLIG Landcare Coordinator and event organiser Amy Lolicato says that the day will be “perfect for newcomers and the well-experienced who are wanting to polish up on best practice.”

Partners and presenters of the event include Induro White Suffolk Stud, Border Veterinary Clinic, Local Land Services, Nutrien Ag Solutions and Landini Industries.

Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided. Please bring your own chair and water bottle.
