Library to no longer charge overdue fines

From 1 July, libraries in Barham and Moulamein will no longer charge overdue fines for late items.

This follows Swan Hill Rural Library’s decision to cease charging the overdue fee.

The change will ensure families and others who need the libraries the most can enjoy borrowing without having to worry about returning their library items on time.

Feedback from the community also indicated that overdue fines for late items often deterred people from using the library service.

Council encourages local residents to make use of the local libraries and the many services on offer including borrowing, internet use and audio books.

The community is reminded that lost, unreturned and damaged items will still require payment.
