The Barham MPS have received a GlideScope Go intubator thanks to funding from the Hospital Auxilliary Committee.
An intubator is a device for controlling, directing, and placing an intubation tube within the trachea.
In layman’s terms, it can help to safely guide a breathing tube down your throat.
“This will mean safer intubation and will make the procedure easier thanks to this more accurate device. It’s better for the patient and the doctor,” he said.
Facility Nurse Manager Lois said that the hospital will make great use of the new equipment and was extremely grateful for the donation. “It’s great to have the auxiliary committee consider the things we need to help the hospital run more efficiently and we’re really pleased to have the GlideScope in the emergency department.”
Further funding has also enabled the hospital auxiliary to purchase a new ultrasound machine which is used in the emergency department to check for abdominal bleeding and cardiac situations.
