Green Thumb Picks the big one!

Is it a pumpkin? Is it a genetically modified red squash? No, it’s a bloody big tomato from the vegetable garden of Bruce McGowan, and it’s the real McCoy!

Affectionately known as ‘VB Dave Tomatoes,’ (an in-joke between Bruce and his mate, Dave, who is quite partial to a VB stubby), Bruce has been growing these big beauties for as long as he can remember. Up until January this year it was not unusual for him to pick a tomato around the 900g mark, but this one is his record so far at 1.137kg.

Not keen to slice it up and wack it on a piece of toast with copious amounts of salt and pepper, Bruce has handed the tomato on to his brother, so don’t bother asking him for a sample!
