Business meeting: November 9

At last it’s summer for a couple of days. My tomatoes might get ripe, but there is colder weather on the way. It certainly gives the climate change worriers something to think about. Must have been about the coolest six weeks for many years, but at least we have had enough rain to finish the crops and fill the hay shed. Although, my farming friends tell me that blow flies have kept them busy.

It’s nice to think the American elections might disappear from the front-page news in 10 weeks’ time, although there seems to be some interesting scandals coming up in Australia. Interesting to hear that Gannawarra Shire has had a clean out. Congratulations to the new gang in there.

Back to Lions. President Rob was in the chair assisted by his battered secretary. You don’t have to be old to break arms and get skin off.

Just a reminder, my smoke alarm batteries are still working.  Just do not forget to try them occasionally. Just because winter is over doesn’t mean you can’t forget to turn off stoves etc. Do not forget you cannot burn rubbish etc.

Lions decided that we will try a Bingo night in December. Full details will be available soon. All members are asked also to help with these nights.

Nice to see some of the restrictions on travel and visiting being eased. Some families will be looking forward to Christmas, also some folks will be looking forward to weddings in 2021. Their overseas families might be able to attend.

Lions Christmas goods are available. Cakes, puddings, slices of cake for smoko or dressed up with brandy sauce, will do for a Christmas pud. Available only at Boyd’s Hardware.

Lion Graham told the meeting of the extras at Skate Park at the Rec. A BBQ is being built and extra seating so it will be a good spot for a family evening.

Australia Day breakfast, remember the Lions with the help of Councils will be putting on the Australia Day breakfasts where a three-course meal will be available at no cost (bar for the coffee) as our way of saying thank you for support every year.

Also, morning of Council Awards this year again the town has at least two candidates for awards.

A member told the meeting of a scam going around. She had a phone call several times from a firm called Amazon who alleged that she owed them over $1000. Hopefully she was able to forcefully tell them that she had nothing to do with it, but be warned.

In conclusion all the best to Lloyd battling his way to Albury with hopefully lots of farming and shop-keeper mates. They should all have a big bag each to pick up the cans and bottles along the way.

That’s all folks.

A big night next dinner. Be there!!
