Lloyd’s Walk for Water
If you’re interested in the water problems of our beautiful Murray Darling Basin you’re not alone.
Our rivers are being raped by those who claim to save them.
To solve a problem, we must clearly identify the problem. In a basin-wide approach, as it stands, the Murray Darling Basin Plan is fundamentally flawed.
It is my belief good science has been bastardised for political and financial gains.
Those in control still shout we are using our water in the most beneficial, environmental, social, economic and prudent manner.
Professor Peter Gell’s latest Watching The Tide Roll Away: Reply to Tibby, is one more nail in the coffin of delusion.
A letter penned by the late John Briscoe about the Murray Darling Basin Plan, as a world leading water expert and adviser to the likes of the World Bank, a plan based on political deception and many other damning statements. Another nail.
Consider our environment in a holistic sense. We previously grew certain crops in certain regions under irrigation for broader reasons than the current capitalist, corrupt and un-Australian manner.
To me, Australians should all work to the betterment of all Australians in a wholistic approach of community, country and common sense.
Common sense is not dead, that is the stuff you know in your gut, like fire is hot, or hitting yourself in the head will hurt, or not putting on your seatbelt will increase your risk of harm, all things I would consider common sense.
I’m not saying everyone possesses the same degree of common sense, like some people are great at maths or dance or finances, different skills or gifts.
The whole shooting match is in real trouble, and the stupidity continues.
Currently the NSW Government intends to push floodplain harvesting through at current levels of extraction.
Current extraction of the unmetered and unlicenced floodplain harvesting is estimated at nearly five times the 1993-94 limits of take. The NSW Government will sanction the death of the Darling, Menindee and our western NSW communities if this goes ahead.
The very thing the Governments claim to save, the Murray Darling Basin, is on a self-destruct path and no Government will ever be accountable, unless we, the people, stand up.
The Wyangala Dam is another one, a business case that doesn’t stack up at all, environmental and cultural destruction and the big winner appears to be mining companies, who plan to also build a 650 acre tailing dam across the head waters of the same river. What could go wrong?
If we don’t stand up, the very few will have had the cake, and eaten it, while destroying our food security, environment and cultural heritage, for all Australians.
And, they have done it by playing a game of division.
We are all Australians and deserve the same rights of food security, environment and cultural heritage.
If you’re worried about climate change projections into the future and ignore the train wreck in front of you, happening now, then I probably wouldn’t put you in charge of common sense.
