If you have wondered what is happening at the rear of the Barham and District Services Memorial Club in Noorong Street, wonder no longer. It is the new state of the art, undercover, synthetic bowling green development recommencing. The old kitchen has been demolished to make way for two greens with room for nine rinks undercover and nine rinks open air.
The new bowling greens at the rear of the club have also incorporated a revamp of cluBarham to include inside viewing of the playing surface, a new club room, bowls office and an upgraded bar area that will be staffed accordingly. With volunteers declining nationwide, the upgrade of the cluBarham facilities, with the support of staff, will allow bowls to continue to grow and prosper in Barham. The new facility opens the potential to host state and national competition, which has been done in the past and, hopefully, we will see a resurgence in bowling membership for both young and old.
This Friday, April 16, marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of Barham and District Services Memorial Club Limited and a week of giveaways and promotions is underway. Come along for the cutting of the cake on Friday night and help celebrate the 70-year milestone.
