“How High’s the Water Momma?”
Is this what the wet years look like? Most of my life, I’ve considered myself a drought baby but would hear mythical tales of, “you can’t water that late, you’ll never get back on it,” or “there were times we couldn’t even get the rice in.” Well, blow me down, I think I’ve arrived, it’s wet, bloody wet. My yard resembles a swamp, with areas I haven’t been able to mow for over a month now and I’ve abandoned any hope of keeping the white border collie any shade other than mud.
There’s also plenty of water in the rivers. At the time of printing, downstream of Yarrawonga, flows are down 2,038ML to 56,668ML/D, with local sites, the Murray River at Barham up 1,146ML to 25,956ML/D, the Edward River at Moulamein up 896ML to 8,797ML/D, the Niemur River at the Barham Road up 1,591ML to 10,343ML/D, and the Wakool River at Barham Road up 1,910ML to 5,633ML/D.
Hume Dam is sitting at 97.1 per cent and Dartmouth at 99.86 per cent. Eildon is at 98.5 per cent and the Loddon is running well with Tullaroop Reservoir at 104 per cent and Laanecoorie at 130 per cent.
