Fire Rescue New South Wales visited homes last weekend in Barham to conduct a free fire safety and smoke alarm check.
Inspector Phillip Eberle was one of the staff visiting homes.
“The average smoke alarm has a 10-year service life.
“For the homes we visit they receive brand new smoke alarms free of charge.

“The new alarms have a battery with a 10-year life span.”
The new alarms are easily installed with double sided tape, so no holes in plaster!
“We also check power points and how many appliances are on them. Often, older homes with limited power points can have too many appliances connected to one point.”
While in town, Inspector Eberle was also on a recruitment drive to fill the 10 vacancies at the Barham Fire Rescue Station. Retained Fire Rescue positions earn up to $35 per hour for their service.
