Such a shame “The Bridge” will not report full stories here [on Facebook]. I grew up in Koondrook, went to school in Barham 60 years ago and still take an interest in the two towns. I like to read about events etc here on FB but find it ever so frustrating to read a headline and two lines before it fades and I am told to “subscribe” to read the full story. I have not lived in the area since I was 19. I am now 70, having lived in Qld for over 50 years. As I said, I liked to take an interest and read about the towns, Barham & Koondrook on FB but to have to subscribe to read the occasional story of interest is ridiculous.
Hi. Thanks for sharing your comments. Running a paper is a balance of being financially viable and providing content to readers.
Our subscription options do provide a minimal payment option for 10 articles for a one-off payment.
I did ask the staff to consider working for free, but they informed me that was slavery.
I then considered other options like offering the power company freshly baked scones as barter for my bill, it appears not even the inclusion of jam and cream could sway their calloused hearts.
As options dwindled, I approached the printers and suggested that instead of more price rises they could consider the enjoyment of our content as payment enough, but to no avail.
Maybe 40¢ an article as a once off for 10 articles to keep independent country newspapers going is outdated?
Maybe we should post all our content for free on platforms like Facebook who take their profits overseas and pay no tax.
Then again, why does Australia lack journalists and in-depth reporting of all sorts of issues across the vast land, instead getting globally regurgitated cookie cutter news on the latest stats mishaps.
Who knows... Those questions are above my pay grade.
I’ll see if we can look at some options.
Enjoy your day.
All the best,
- Lloyd
Thanks, I take your point. I just get disappointed when I see a heading of interest about the towns that were my life for my first 20 years then - nothing. Have a good day.
