COVID-19 Hardship Policy extended

Initially approved at the April Council Meeting, the policy enables Council to hold interest on all outstanding debts during the COVID-19 pandemic and hold off on legal action of rates and charges.

“Restrictions implemented to stop the spread of COVID-19 have impacted business owners and residents throughout the Gannawarra, evident by the closure of businesses and reduction of staff numbers,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Council implemented its COVID-19 Hardship Policy as recognition for the financial hardship experienced at the time, with the original timeframe of the policy’s implementation expiring on 16 September 2020.

“The decision to extend the operations of the policy will continue to provide some financial security to residents and businesses.”

The extension of the COVID-19 Hardship Policy is one of many support measures Council has implemented to help the community deal with and recover from this pandemic.

“These measures include reducing hall hire and recreation reserve charges by 50 per cent, waiving Footpath Trader permit fees and halving registration renewal fees for hospitality, beauty therapists, hairdressers and other health-related premises for 2020/21,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council will continue to assess the situation and implement further changes as needed.
