Gannawarra Shire Council’s long-term financial sustainability will be guided by a 10-year plan recently adopted by Council.

A requirement of the Local Government Act 2020, the Gannawarra Shire Council Financial Plan 2025/26 to 2034/35 outlines a 10-year financial projection regarding the impact of implementing some of the actions and aspirations outlined in the Gannawarra Shire 2025-2029 Council Plan.

The plan forecasts that Council will be debt free during the timeframe the plan converts, with an underlying deficit result over the life of the plan and cash flows in surplus for five of the next 10 years. The renewal of Council assets is also forecast to surpass the 100 per cent mark within four out of the next 10 years.

“Council thanks all residents who took the time to look at this important document, which provides a forecast of Council’s financial position during the next 10 years,” Mayor Garner Smith said.

“Although the plan is influenced by current documents, including the 2025/26 Budget and Council’s Revenue and Rating Plan, it is based on current economic assumptions and will be continually reviewed.”

“The plan also identifies the challenges we will face during the next decade to remain financially sustainable whilst maintaining the levels of service our residents expect.”
