As the bustling Christmas holidays approach, our house has transformed into a lively DIY project. We’re working on tiling, putting up Christmas trees, and, most importantly, painting walls. Our dogs, ever the curious explorers, feel the need to investigate everything in sight. Whether it’s a lone sock on the floor or that elusive toilet roll that seems to run away, they must sniff, touch, and even taste anything that catches their attention.
They were extremely interested when the protective mats were laid down on the floor, and even more intrigued when the door was closed, cutting off their access to this part of the house. We often found them sitting by the door, begging us to let them explore this strange new element in their home. But we couldn’t let them in, no matter how hard they pawed at the laundry door. Who knows what trouble they could get into!
As Mum busily coated the walls with a crisp white layer of paint, the puppies hatched a plan for their little heist. You could picture Oreo as the mastermind, her eyes gleaming with curiosity about what lay behind the mysterious closed door, while Teddy, always eager to join in, was just happy to be included in the adventure.
They positioned themselves next to the door, anticipation coursing through them as they waited for the perfect moment to strike. Time seemed to stretch, and they found themselves sitting there for what felt like ages—20 long minutes. Just when all hope seemed lost, and the excitement began to fade, Oreo perked up at the sound of creaking door hinges.
GO GO GO! They burst into the room like a flash of black and white fur, hearts racing with excitement! The once-familiar space was filled with a brand-new scent that tickled their noses.
“What is that?” Teddy tilted his head, as if to wonder, as Oreo spotted it—the mother lode! A whole tub of mysterious white smell!
Cautiously, Oreo dipped a paw in. “Sticky!” she exclaimed, pulling it back like she’d touched a hot stove. But curiosity got the better of her, and she put all paws in, soon covered in a gooey mess!
They transformed the laundry room into their art studio, leaving paw prints everywhere, but no puppy excitement can be contained to just a laundry room! NO! They must spread this newfound fun all over the house! Paint in the kitchen, dining room and all through the bathroom.
Once Mum came back to painting, you could imagine the shock! The house was painted, but not in the places she expected it to be. The pups just sat there, ecstatic with themselves, their tails wagging and a bright happy smile on each of their faces.
The cleanup was the worst bit; it took us a while, but we all worked together to rid the floor of the white puppy prints. And now it’s a tale for Christmas dinner, while our family admire our freshly painted walls.
