Wow! Who would have thought 2 months ago, we’d be playing Round 1 Tennis in October? A great effort by Melbournians and Victorians to get us to this point and a big congratulations to the Northern District Lawn Tennis Association and the clubs in getting ready for the season at short notice.

For the 2020 season, Cohuna has one senior team and two junior teams. Senior Division 1 this year is a three-men and three-women format whilst our Juniors were unable to move up to Division 1 after their Grand final win due to insufficient teams to run that division.

A great day for tennis, with all sides looking for a solid start to the season, with Seniors and Junior Blue teams playing at home to Gunbower and Junior Gold playing away to Gunbower.

Junior development squad tennis has commenced and everyone is welcome to attend. The club now runs “Hotshots” tennis for our junior group and skills training for the older juniors all commencing at 9am on Saturday mornings. The club has spare racquets and the cost is $3 for a Saturday session.

Twilight Tennis is up and running. If you are interested, give Mary Rodwell a call. Twilight runs on a Tuesday night from 6pm.

Round 1 – Seniors (Cohuna Vs Gunbower)

The men’s hit-out was more in Gunbower’s favour, with a 25 to 13 lead, whilst the women were a 24 to 10 game. Creating a 2-game lead moving into the mixed This was enough to maintain a lead coming through the mixed with a 10 game victory. Well done to Mary Rodwell and Shirlene for winning all their sets for the day.

Round 1 – Juniors Blue

A closer match for the Blue Team this week, with the singles matches a very even result. Slipping into pairs was a very different story with wins in three of the four sets. A 11-game win to Cohuna Blue. Well done to Broden for winning all his sets and a big welcome to our new players. You did an amazing job playing your first games for Cohuna.
