Well what a day for Round 2. Windy and cool conditions made for problematic serving and judging the baseline was proving difficult for most. This year Leitchville have relocated and are now playing home games at Cohuna Lawn Tennis Club. We welcome them to the club and are sure there will be plenty of quality tennis and great memories at your new home.
This week saw Leitchville’s first home game at Cohuna as they played off in the Seniors against Cohuna. With both of our juniors playing each other at home also it was a bit of a local derby.
Junior development squad tennis has commenced and everyone is welcome to attend. The club now runs “Hotshots” tennis for our junior group and skills training for the older juniors all commencing at 9:00am on Saturday mornings. The club has spare racquets and the cost is $3 for a Saturday session.
Twilight Tennis is up and running. If you are available to fill in give Mary Rodwell a call. Twilight runs on a Tuesday night from 6pm.
Round 2 – Seniors (Leitchville Vs Cohuna)
The entire day was an extremely close affair, going right down to the wire, won in the last game of the day. The Men’s heavy hitting was quickly replaced for softer shots with better placement as the wrong side of the baseline was found repeatedly with the big hits. The wind proved difficult for the server at both ends and for both teams. The men finishing the day with a 3-game lead going into the mixed.
The women’s games were also troubled by the conditions, with the first game going out to a 9-7 match. You would be sure to get your “eye in” in any conditions when you’re on the court for that long! The ladies pushed through the sets only dropping the one for the day and holding a 1 game lead going into the mixed.
In the mixed Cohuna only held one set of the three which had the scorer checking and rechecking the book. But in the end, we held onto a 1 game victory. Well done to Mary Rodwell and Jason Hensley for winning all their sets for the day.

Round 2 – Juniors Cohuna Gold vs Cohuna Blue
The two Cohuna Junior teams played off in the local derby and it was great to see the comradery and sportsmanship between the players. The development and progress of each player is always reflective of their effort and practise. Keep it up kids!
The Blue team was dominant for the day with three out of four sets going their way in the singles, moving into the mixed with a 12-game lead.
