Cohuna Cards - May 28, 2026
BREAKING NEWS: CARD CLUB READY TO CLOSE.
We have not closed as yet, but the writing is on the wall when we only had 7 card players for the night. No it’s got nothing to do with any money we make and donate back to the public, it’s just we have 3 in their 90s who love their cards and we cannot just rely on these 3 to turn up every week; as they do their best to turn up. It’s not fair on 3 people who are over 80 going down and getting the key for the room then at 5.30pm set up the room with the tables, cups put out etc. Then they do the dishes and clean up the floor, leaving the room in pristine condition. Just 5 years ago we had 32 card players and on average 28 each night. We have been going over 75 years donating nearly $20,000.00 to the local organisations.
Yes, we usually have 12 players turn up but there is always someone sick. You want it to stay open then get new card players to attend, otherwise the money will have to go to Richmond Football Club!!!
Gwen Campbell won the Ladies with a moderate score of 2230. Laurel Stacey won the Men’s, also with a moderate score of 2070.
The Lucky Door went to Lorna Johnson and the Mystery which was a low number of 860, went to Iris Howard and one of the persons who set up the room – Barry Stacey.
