Cohuna beach construction begins

Construction of the Cohuna Beach, which forms part of the rejuvenated Apex Park, is underway.

One of the final features to be completed as part of Stage 1 of the Cohuna Waterfront Redevelopment, this new area will boost recreational opportunities available to residents and visitors.

“The Cohuna Beach ties in with works recently completed at Apex Park, including the new jetty that will provide kayakers access to Gunbower Creek and the outdoor kitchen that will give residents and visitors an area to enjoy a meal whilst taking in the natural beauty the Gannawarra has to offer,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Whether it is playing by the water, relaxing creekside or watching Cohuna’s renowned New Year’s Eve fireworks display, this area is set to become another tourist attraction for Cohuna.”

To enable the construction works of the beach to occur, the footpath that is adjacent to the beach area, as well as the jetty, will be closed at this time.

It is anticipated these works will be completed by 9 August, with the water level of Gunbower Creek to rise to its regular spring and summer levels in mid-August.

“Council looks forward to the completion of Stage 1 of the Cohuna Waterfront Project, and continues to plan for the community consultation process as part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Development, supported by a $1.7 million investment from the State Government’s Building Works package,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Stage 1 of the Cohuna Waterfront Project was identified as one of the major projects in the Gannawarra Waterfront Masterplan, approved by Council in 2019 following extensive community consultation.
