The organisers of the AWMA Water Control Solutions 28th Cohuna Bridge to Bridge are looking forward to holding an event that the whole community can be a part of. Whether it is participating in an event, volunteering your time, or enjoying the atmosphere of the Event Village, there is an opportunity for everyone to be involved.
Event Director, Jess Holgate, says, “the committee and I are so thrilled to be so close to our 28th annual Bridge to Bridge event. Despite COVID-19 lockdowns, road closures and loads of town works going on, this amazing weekend is almost here!”
Each year the event raises money for the Cohuna District Hospital, with proceeds over the last two years funding two dialysis chairs and an endoscopy camera. This year, proceeds will go towards the theatre and recovery refurbishment project.
For those with a spring in their step, the H2H Digital 6.5km fun run/walk offers an enjoyable run/walk from Daltons Bridge, along Island Road into the town bridge where the finish line is located. This has traditionally been the most popular event, attracting multiple generations of families to participate together.
The Gannawarra Shire Council 12.5km and Cohuna Auto Electrical 21.1km (half marathon distance) trail runs are recent additions to the event and are attracting entrants from across the state. With people having been ‘starved’ of events due to COVID-19, these events are particularly popular this year. Both trail runs start at Daltons Bridge and wind their way through the Gunbower State Forest and Gunbower National Park, before finishing at the town bridge. Participants are sure to be stunned by the beauty of the forests, and may even spot kangaroos, emus and koalas on their run.
For the cyclists, the 25km and 50km cycle events challenge riders to negotiate Island Road, starting at the town bridge and turning at Burkes Bridge. The 25km cyclists complete one lap with the 50km cyclists repeating the same route to complete two, and both finishing at the town bridge.
Youngsters are catered for with the Riverine Herald 6.5km junior cycle, open to children up to 14 years old. This event has also been a traditional favourite, with cyclists starting out at Daltons Bridge and riding into the finish line at the town bridge, along Island Road. For the littlies who prefer two feet on the ground, there is the Mawson’s Mini-Miler, a 1.6km run/walk for children up to grade 6. Due to the fish screen works occurring in the creek, the course has been changed to the first oval.
With no entries taken on the day, organisers strongly encourage everyone to get their entries in by the deadline Saturday. Go to www.bridgetobridge.org.au to register.
If you can’t make it to Cohuna, the option of virtual runs/rides has been offered for the first time. Participating virtually allows you to do your event at your choice of location, while still raising valuable funds for the hospital. Jess says, “we are hoping this will provide excitement and relief for those who thought they may miss out participating this year.”
A ‘Lucky Duck’ competition is on offer with a $5 duck potentially earning you an attractive $100 prize.
The event village in Apex Park will keep you occupied munching on a snag in bread or chatting with the Headspace team, while the kids have their faces painted.
Jess concludes, “raising funds for our local hospital, this event is just one of the highlights our town puts on and we encourage everyone to grab a friend or family member, pick an event and join us in the fun. See you there!”
