Starting his AFL career in 2013 with Greater Western Sydney, Tom Boyd later went on to help the Western Bulldogs break their 62-year premiership drought.
Boyd announced his retirement from the game after struggling with injuries and mental health. Barham High School students last week were lucky enough to listen to Tom as he shared his story about suffering with mental health and the techniques he used during his AFL career and continues to use in order to achieve happiness and balance.
Boyd’s story aims to demystify mental health problems and to share his journey through the AFL to winning a grand final with the Western Bulldogs, to leaving the AFL system to work on his mental health.
