Lately, there has been an increase in scams through SMS, phone calls and emails in Australia. Cybercrime is a constantly evolving industry, with scammers adapting to new technology. These scams rely on computer code made up of zeros and ones, with unique visual letters.

It’s important to remember the saying ‘if it’s too good to be true, it probably is’ to stay safe from scams. Banks will never ask for passwords or account details over the phone, and emails with unknown senders should not have their links clicked.

Scammers often make their emails look legitimate, so check the email address by hovering over it to confirm its authenticity. Scammers will use any tactic to get your money, such as fake lottery wins, lost family trees, or African princes.
