A 137-year-old Benjeroop home was razed by fire on Sunday, May 8 after a log fell from a wood fire and ignited the home. The occupant was not home at the time but was later assessed at the scene by ambulance officers and did not require further treatment.
The residence was a former church built near the banks of the Loddon River. Land was purchased for a Baptist Church in 1876. Following the construction of a bridge over the river in 1880, the Baptist Church opened in 1885.
