Barham-Koondrook Show News - April 2021
Yes, we are hoping to run a show this year. It does depend on our old friend COVID-19, but hopefully many people will be vaccinated by October and it will be safe to run a full show. Several local shows are running but on a restricted basis. Our...
The show is on again this year, as long as Mr COVID allows it. A committee has been formed again and is busy planning a bigger and better show. At the recent AGM, Gael Mathers was elected as president, Maree Telford as vice president, Graham Minnis as secretary, and Geoff Barker as treasurer. Each of these was returned to the job.
One of the disappointing features of the meeting was that there were no new faces attending. The committee is getting smaller and older each year, but the workload does not get smaller.
We need fresh faces and ideas and enthusiastic people to ease the work load on the committee members. We always get plenty of helpers at the time of the show but even these are becoming fewer in number. We will need extra people to help out this year to carry out the COVID-19 requirements so keep it in mind if you can help out at show time – please be ready to give a hand. If we can get enough volunteers, the burden on each is reduced.
However, enough of the complaints. We are going ahead again this year. This will be our 60th show. We are looking at some special events to celebrate the event becoming 60 years old. If anyone has any ideas please put them forward for consideration.
The Northern Victorian District Show Society held its annual competition over the weekend of May 18 in Mildura. The competition is for the winners and second place getters in certain categories of the pavilion exhibition at each show in the Northern District. Barham Koondrook was well represented with a good number of entries. Carol Sincock won the Tote or Carry Bag entry. This will now go on to the Melbourne show later in the year. Elizabeth McFarlane came second in the Junior Chocolate Cake and Debra McGee came third with her Handmade Greeting Card.
Congratulations to each of these and also to the other entrants. The standard of our entries was high. I do not know how the judges were able to separate them. Rock will just have to try again next year.
