MEDIA RELEASE
Following the endorsement of a new Adverse Event Plan last month, Murray River Council are now looking to appoint an advisory group to provide further recommendations to council.
The plan was developed to improve preparation for and recovery from adverse events, with the development of an advisory group flagged as a priority initiative in the plan.
The group would identify the likelihood of adverse events in each community across the LGA and offer recommendations to council as required.
Several councillors will also hold positions on the group.
Murray River Council mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said community leadership is vital when it comes to adverse events.
“At its core the plan emphasises the importance of preparation and risk management processes, and offers a range of strategies to avoid reactive, often late, crisis responses.”
“The plan itself was developed with the valuable input of representatives from the local community sectors and now needs to be further fleshed-out and reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure actions and recommendations are up-to-date and valid.”
“This is certainly an area where local expertise will be valuable, so we’ll be looking to engage with skilled people in emergency management from right across the council,” he said.
An adverse event can be a drought, flood, earthquake, storm, biosecurity or health pandemic event.
Interested community members can find out more about the plan via council’s website (via the Your Say link) or get in touch with Council’s Economic Development Team.
