A Boy’s Best Friend

A beautiful gesture has brightened the life of Jackson Atkinson, age 5.

Jackson, from Deniliquin, recently lost his autism support dog, Milo, after it was struck by a car.

On hearing of his plight, local resident Jenny Davis wanted to donate a new puppy to help fill the void left by Milo’s passing.

With the support of local businesses, Jackson has had a very special week. “Milo Two” had his vet treatment donated by Veterinary Clinic, Clavin, Rogers & Associates, the Barham Bakery donated a cake for Jackson’s birthday last Thursday, and BP donated a fuel card to help ease travel costs.

The handover took place on Tuesday morning at Barham High School, when even the most nonchalant teenager would be hard pressed to ignore the emotional first meeting of Jackson and Milo Two.

Relieving Principal Brendan Yu reminded students that although we face challenges, we all have the ability to be a positive force in the lives of those around us.

Milo Two, will now be trained in being a support dog, which will require the family to travel to Bendigo or Albury.
