The inaugural Gordon and Wendy Fletcher Memorial Shoot was well attended on Saturday, with competitors travelling from across Victoria and interstate. The Cohuna Clay Target Club introduced the memorial shoot after two of its valued members, Gordon and Wendy Fletcher, passed away in recent years.
Organisers were pleased with the day, with 85 competitors vying for $5,500 in cash and prizes. Entrants competed in the 25 Target Point Score Championship, the 25 Target Single Barrel Championship and the 50 Target Double Barrel Championship. Peter Dertimanis was the overall gun winner with a score of 148/150 from the three events, earning himself $500, a sash and the honour of being the first name on the shield.
Sons of Gordon and Wendy, Rohan and Jarrod, were in attendance with other family members and were impressed with the turnout. “There are a lot of people here who probably haven’t shot for a long time, who have come out because of the memorial shoot. It’s good to see them come out,” said Jarrod.
Rohan was one of those, shooting for the first time in about 20 years when members of the Fletcher family did five shots to kick off the event. “I got two, so I’m happy,” he said.
The Gordon and Wendy Fletcher Memorial Shoot will be an annual event, held in March each year.
