Hi all, hope the rain suited everyone. It was most welcome by all the farmers in the district, with around 50 ml or so measured in our area. I headed to the Murrumbidgee last week for a few days and wasn’t disappointed. The very low flows and crystal clear water certainly made for some very good action. Getting about in the boat was a bit slow having to navigate timber and reefs. I started by trawling upstream but found the depth very inconsistent, although I managed to pick up a 78 cm cod and a couple of smaller ones. I decided that I would use the electric motor and slowly make my way upstream, casting at snags along the way. Well, this proved to be a good move as I started picking up Cod almost at will. A metallic green Oargee lure in the 75mm was doing all the damage. Some of the action was very visual with the clean water often allowing me to see the fish grabbing the lure. The best for the day was an 84cm Cod with a total of 20 Cod and 2 Yellas for the day. The next day I was joined by legendary fisho Marcus Pay and we cast lures for most of the day reeling in a dozen Cod each. The biggest being around 80cm. We also managed to round up some good Yellas, the biggest being around 50cm. Closer to home, I’ve heard some good reports from around the town with some nice Cod and Yellas being caught locally. The fishing has also picked up upstream around Halfway Bend around the Cohuna and Gunbower areas. I have seen some pics of some meter plus fish caught in the Gunbower Creek. It’s worth a shot if you’re prepared to put up with the weed, which seem to be getting thicker every year. The Murrumbidgee River is a major tributary of the Murray River within the Murray Darling Basin. It is the second longest river in Australia as it flows through NSW and the ACT, originating from the Snowy Mountains and running into the Murray, near Boundary Bend. That’s all from me, cheers Bazz
