Sun, steam and fun at Barham Vintage Rally

The sun shone on the extensive exhibition that was the 27th Barham Vintage Engine and Machinery Rally. Held at the Flywheelers museum on Jamieson Avenue. The event once again delighted attendees with a nostalgic and informative look back into the region's past. Proudly sitting in prime position at the gate was the spectacular 6” Burrell Traction Engine of John Schulze. I first witnessed the 2,000-hour labour of love when it was raw steel and a few completed components on the floor of John’s shed. My goodness, what an impressive achievement it has been to complete this machine. This year, the mighty little engine was chugging away and driving around under its own steam! The striking red paintwork, polished brass and stainless steel hardware make the little engine quite a sight.

It must have been the day for red as I found myself at the David Brown Club
