The Koondrook Barham Ride Park came back to life on Sunday, reestablishing itself as a top destination for motocross fans along the Murray River. The volunteer-run facility, supported by Rider Sport Australia (RSA), provides a family-friendly space for riders of all ages and skill levels, making it a key part of community recreation in the twin towns of Koondrook and Barham. Clive Patullock, a major figure in the park’s revival, expressed his excitement at the action on Sunday: “It was very good considering we didn’t think we’d probably run this weekend, but the weather’s been really good.” His words reflect the community’s determination to overcome challenges, including unpredictable weather, to bring the park back to life. The facility features a main track, a junior track, and a grass track, catering to different skill levels, with only two of the three tracks open on Sunday. The park makes sure everyone can access it while keeping safety high, with first aid on-site and veteran racers helping newcomers. The park’s reopening involved significant effort, including improvements to the tracks. Patullock mentioned, “Rod Chalmers donated some sand to us, but we’ve got a lot more sand to go on the track… We will try and blend that in when the weather allows.” These upgrades aim to make riding safer and more enjoyable, especially for young riders. The focus on youth is clear, with Patullock highlighting the turnout: “We tried pretty hard to make sure there’s a great turnout of young kids and a few new faces here too.” This focus on encouraging new talent shows the park’s role in nurturing the next generation of motocross fans. The revival of Ride Parks gives a boost to local tourism and helps the local economy. The park runs regularly, with Patullock confirming, “We schedule to open the second Sunday every month,” giving riders regular chances to gather. The Koondrook Barham Ride Park’s success shows the dedication of volunteers and the strength of community spirit. With its mix of adrenaline-filled action, family-friendly facilities, and beautiful scenery, it stands as a lively hub for motocross and a symbol of resilience. Whether you’re an experienced rider or a newcomer, the park offers an unforgettable experience, bringing the community together through a shared love for two-wheeled adventure.
